Karuna DiLibero / Senior Teacher

I have been a student of Yoga since 1994 and started sharing the practice with others in 1998. In 2000 I first met Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, lovingly known as Guruji, which changed my life in a profound way. Later that year, I founded and directed a Yoga Studio in Oregon. During the years I ran the studio, I had the opportunity to study with many respected Yoga instructors, advancing my practice and becoming certified in Traditional Thai Massage. I have been invited to teach internationally; and as outdoor enthusiast I’ve been able to take small groups of people to exotic places on adventurous Yoga retreats and create an opportunity for total immersion into the self. I believe that the power of transformation intensifies when working one on one and tailoring a therapeutic Yoga practice to meet personal needs. I have designed Yoga curriculum and created a Yoga teacher-training program at the request of my students. . I have been blessed to work with the terminally ill and discovered the grace and beauty of dying and death through this experience. With the desire to delve deeper into my practice, I moved to India in 2003 to study pranayama, meditation, Sanskrit, Yoga Sutras, Vedic chanting, Vedanta and Reiki with dedicated teachers and Asthanga Yoga with Guruji. I lived in the Sivananda Yoga Ashram in north India on the Ganga River where meditation took root in my soul. In 2004 I returned from India and moved to Santa Fe . I am very grateful to my instructors who have offered the less accessible Yogic teachings to further my studies of Yoga. My spiritual teacher is Shubhraji, instructor of Advaita Vedanta. Together, we hosted the Yoga Vedanta Weekend in 2007 to raise awareness of what Yoga and Vedanta is and to fundraise for an Ayurvedic Hospital in south India and for Santa Fe Yoga in Schools program. Karuna means “compassion” or “love in action” in Sanskrit. “I use my Yoga practice to raise my self-awareness of who I am, how I am feeling and how I act in the world at this point in time and I strive to live my life based on these teachings.” Om shanti
